I thought it would just be a “hobby,” Anne Marie Moquin told me. She didn’t realize, at the time, her "hobby" would become a mission!

A mission to create awareness about the waste that we produce and how it affects our oceans & environment. Now, Beaches Go Green’s mission has become a movement!

Here’s how it all started:

In June 2019, a group of local beach friends watched a documentary called A Plastic Ocean created by the Plastic Oceans Foundation – and they were shocked. Sure, they heard about the Great Pacific garbage patch but quickly learned, there’s so much more to it. Did you know? Scientists predict that by 2050 there will be me more plastic than fish in the Ocean!

Why wasn’t somebody talking about the dangers of plastic in our environment? Why wasn’t someone talking about how wasteful & dangerous single-use plastics were? Why wasn’t someone advocating for the animals?

Why wasn’t somebody doing something about it?

Then they realized. . .

THEY were the SOMEBODY

...and one more thing:

Even if you are a die hard recycling fan - you might be recycling wrong (!) and Anne Marie is happy to set us straight.

PS: WATCH YOUR BUTTS! The day after we recorded , the press release about cigarette butt collection came out. Here’s the link: BEACHES GO GREEN COMBATS CIGARETTE BUTT LITTER:
